Old world charm in New Brunswick great hotel. Is upscale and is dog friendly you can bring your pooch if it is well mannered. Food, meat and seafood dishes were delicious service very friendly. Walking distance to their main street. With a golf course on site at the hotel. You go there to relax and enjoy the seafood New Brunswick has to offer in its easy going friendly style.
What an amazingly beautiful establishment. Nestled in the quiet community of St. Andrews, this is the perfect place to rest, relax and recharge. I was lucky enough to stay here for work so it was a nice balance between attending meetings and taking in the calming atmosphere. The bay is a ten minute walk away. I would recommend a stroll down Water Street as there are many art shops and craft stores. At the wharf, you can hire an outfitter for scuba diving, boating and whale watching. The resort has been established since 1889 and the rooms are redone. The beds are very comfortable and provide a very enjoyable night's sleep. The staff are very friendly, grounds are tended well and rooms are very clean. The washroom was a little small but I tend to enjoy larger bathroom space. Would definitely recommend this place and stay here again!!!
My husband treated us to the Algonquin Resort this past weekend for my birthday. We were both getting over a cold and I had back/knee pain so we were looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and having a nice bath. Upon check-in, we were told that our room did not have a bath and we would have to pay $40 to upgrade, so we did. Our room was in the wing with the the pool, on the ground floor. The first evening, we both started to strangely feel worse and by the morning, we were both heavily congested, my lungs were tight, and I had an asthma attack. We thought it strange that we suddenly started feeling worse than we had all week. By Saturday night, my husband was feeling really off, he was itchy on his right side, his head was fuzzy, and he was asking for antihistamines, which we didn't have, nor did the hotel. My asthma was worsening, but luckily I had an emergency inhaler, and both of us were coughing and sneezing. And then we heard it - a dog bark in the hallway. We suddenly realized that we might actually be in a pet-friendly room, but no one had told us this - in fact, we had no idea that it was a pet-friendly hotel - to that point, we hadn't actually seen any dogs. I LOVE dogs, but I am extremely allergic - my allergies are serious and a matter of breathing or not, as well as hives, runny nose, congestion, etc, and my husband has never reacted like this before. Sunday morning, we called and asked for a late check-out as we were having a hard time getting out of bed. While on the phone, I asked Josh, the front desk gentleman, if there were indeed dogs and if we were in a pet-friendly room, to which he replied yes. I told him that we had not been informed of any of this upon check-in and that we have both been sick all weekend as a result. Josh said that we should come to the front desk upon check-out and mention it to them as the hotel would not want us to walk away unhappy. So we did and we had the same girl who had checked us in (I can't recall her name, but she had on her badge something about the Blue Jays). We explained to her the 'issue' and she indicated that the entire hotel is dog-friendly - alluding that we would have had the same issue anywhere in the hotel. She offered to take the $40 upgrade fee off of the bill and then asked if that was 'good enough'. I was floored by both her response and attitude. Honestly, I have never heard of an entire hotel being pet-friendly, especially one as up-scale as the Algonquin! Surely there are many people who have allergies and what about those whose allergies are serious and could be a matter of life. Surely there are always rooms that are reserved as pet-free, and I said as much to the girl, however she insisted that the entire hotel is pet-friendly, ignoring her responsibility to have told us as much. Hotel guests should be made aware upon booking and check-in that the hotel is fully pet-friendly (It certainly is not clear on their website - you have to search under amenities and it doesn't say indicate all rooms) so that they can make an informed decision, especially one as expensive as this and that can be costly to one's health, and staff should take these things seriously. I am disappointed by this oversight on the part of the hotel staff and by the way it was handled. I left the desk to get some air, feeling extremely frustrated while she asked my husband what would make him happy, 'how about 10% off" she asked. I feel like her automatic response should have been one of accountability and to get the manager to talk with us, rather than having the attitude that she didn't want to deal with us. This was not what we had expected when we booked this 4.5 star hotel weekend away for my birthday.
We recently stayed the night at this resort. It was nice, but the room was a little small. The staff were nice, but not overly helpful. The stay was arranged for us as a gift, so we don't know what was included with the stay. However, we left without breakfast, which was apparently included with the package. But, none of the staff told us this before we left. The resort has 2 pools, one indoor and one outdoor. We used the outdoor pool and it was pretty nice, very large with a 3 meter deep end. We didn't try any of the food, but the menu at one of the 3 restaurants looked pretty high end. We ended up going to a restaurant in St Andrews that we had been to before because it was so busy at the resort. I would probably stay again, but maybe not around a Canadian holiday because it was incredibly busy.
I have friends who live in Bocabec, so when visiting them we pass by this excellent hotel quite frequently. In a previous summer we had dinner at the restaurant here and it was excellent. This time, I happened to be driving my brand new Tesla Model 3, and since EV chargers are few and far between in this neck of the woods (just over the border from Calais ME), I was happy to see that the Algonquin had a couple of Level 2 chargers, so I asked whether I could use one for a couple of hours even though I wasn't a guest. The concierge was classy and more than accommodating. Cars were parked next to them, but fortunately, the cables were the 24' type and long enough to reach the empty spot I found.
